“SlowAdventure": Healthy Habits and the Environment

Ireland has been promoting sustainable and eco-friendly activities to encourage healthy habits for all ages. Among the most internationally popular activities is the promotion of "SlowAdventure", an activity that consists of collecting seaweed on the Wild Atlantic Way designed by an ecologist in the Sperrin Mountains. The Irish have enjoyed the healthy properties of seaweed for generations.

"SlowAdventure" is a concept that favors immersive and slow experiences that connect with remote, wild and nature-rich places, ideal for any age and the whole family. These are human-driven activities such as hiking or cycling, which allow you to fully immerse yourself in the natural beauty of the region and appreciate its unique character.

The "Slow Adventure" is an ideal experience for tourism and movement, where it is in contrast to adventure sports due to its low adrenaline but intense connection with nature.  These initiatives favor cities through tourism, and contribute to the WHO recommendation to walk 30 minutes a day to combat all types of non-communicable diseases (NCDs) such as cardiovascular diseases, chronic respiratory diseases, cancer, diabetes, obesity and mental health disorders.
