THE EFFECTIVE TRAINING OF KAATSU

  07/09/2023 21:05 Noticias

What is Kaatsu?
With a name derived from the combination of Japanese words, the Kaatsu system consists of thin, computer-controlled bands that are pressurized around the arms and legs to reduce the amount of blood flowing from the muscles of the extremities.

In the West and in the scientific literature, this training method is also known by various names, such as “training with blood flow restriction”, “occlusive or occlusion training”, “vascular occlusion training”, “ischemic training or ischemia training”. local".

This version of training works to slow the flow of blood to the heart while allowing the extremities to fill with blood. This form fills more capillaries and significantly increases the concentration of lactic acid in the blood, and it does so at relatively lower training intensities and weights while simulating hard and prolonged exercise.

This simulation of intense exercise also tricks the brain into thinking that the body is going through a very difficult workout and causes the pituitary gland to release more growth hormone, a key aspect of building muscle mass.

 Is it really that revolutionary?
There are scientific studies that point to significant and faster increases in muscle mass over time (which are also associated with strength gains, although generally lower than those of traditional training) than with traditional means and methods without occlusion and a high number of repetitions. , even with activities of very low demand or neuromuscular intensity such as walking and pedaling when vascular occlusion is added.
